Recently, I've been addicted to "Kono Oto Tomare!" and in the past couple of days, I felt inspired to remake its OP "Seishun Complex" and ED1 "Distortion!!". If you're interested, you can check it out.
In high school, I played guitar, so I'm very interested in the instruments used by the four of them. When "Kono Oto Tomare!" became popular, it boosted the sales of the same instruments (at least back in high school, many in the school band bought them this way...), perhaps "Kono Oto Tomare!" will spark a similar rock trend as it did back then.
I digress. While searching, I found that there is very little research on this topic both domestically and internationally, so I re-read the manga and the already released anime carefully, combined with some existing research to write down my own thoughts. There may be some inaccuracies, so please point them out if you see them.
The names of all the members of the ending band (Ketsuband) in "Kono Oto Tomare!" are parodies of the well-known Japanese rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION.
Among them:
Hitori Goto → Masafumi Gotoh
Ikuyo Kita → Kensuke Kita
Ryou Yamada → Takahiro Yamada
Nijika Iijima → Kiyoshi Iijima
In terms of instrument selection, the original work also referenced the instruments used by these four.
First is Pochi-chan, whose prototype Masafumi Gotoh most commonly used guitar is the Gibson Les Paul Junior RED.
By the way, almost all the other guitars used are also the red version of the big G LP.
The guitar used by Pochi is actually mentioned in the special collaboration project "Guitar Hero Road" of "Kono Oto Tomare!" and is an Epiphone Les Paul Custom.
However! The guitar that appears in the anime and manga
Looks like a Gibson to me. After searching, I confirmed that it is this guitar.
1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue - Ebony 2-Pickup.
It seems the collaboration didn't go well, so they directly partnered with a rival. That's ruthless.
In the work, it was used by Gotoh's father back in the day. Truly wealthy.
In the manga, during the school festival performance, Pochi broke the guitar's tuning peg.
Her father secretly used the ad revenue from her channel to buy Pochi a new guitar, and in the end, Pochi chose this one.
The shape looks like a Pacifica, but I don't know the exact model. According to the manga, it cost 200,000 yen and was a special custom version, ultimately locking onto this model.
Yamaha Pacifica 612V II FM Translucent Black.
868 euros, the price matches.
Although the price is far less than the original guitar, Pochi still strayed for this guitar.
(It's indeed cool.)
Ikuyo Kita's prototype Kensuke Kita uses the standard model big G LP.
Ikuyo Kita should be using the Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut Junior.
In the story, Ikuyo originally bought a six-string bass, which was later purchased by Ryou, who gave the guitar to Ikuyo.
When I first saw these two images, I always felt something was off with the proportions, like a guitar with bass strings.
This one looks more normal. After checking, it is an Ibanez BTB866SC.
The bassist Ryou's bass is a Fender Precision Bass in Pearl White.
I also wonder why the rich girl doesn't use a more expensive bass; maybe that's just love.
Extra:
The drummer Nijika Iijima's drum set is a TAMA Starclassic.
After going on stage, the snare was replaced with the Chad Smith signature Pearl Snare that appeared in the OP.
I'll stop here for the first article. There are still many things to write about, such as headphones and speakers, and the instruments used by other bands in the show. Recently, "Kono Oto Tomare!" has also started airing on Bilibili, and the manga rights have long been acquired, so please be sure to check it out.
While searching, I came across this article on Bilibili, which is similar to my research, and the part about the drums comes from here.
